Two popular groups in Teshie and Nungua, both suburbs of Accra, have jointly pleaded with President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo not to overlook Joshua Nii Bortey for the position of Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Ledzokuku Krowor Municipal Assembly (LEKMA).
According to Teshie Old Stars Association (TOSA) and Nungua Old Players Association (NOPA), Mr. Bortey, 53, has the capacity to ensure that Nana Addo’s government’s plans to make that part of Accra a modern city come into fruition.
The groups said that Mr. Bortey is a ‘true’ New Patriotic Party (NPP) activist who toiled to get the party back in office and that his efforts should be rewarded by the government.
They said that apart from getting somebody whose loyalty to the party is undoubted, there is the need to appoint a person who can mobilize the people, particularly the youth, for effective city management.
According to the groups, Mr. Bortey, who was once a professional footballer, has been the NPP’s official polling agent in the past 12 years and has actively worked to strengthen the party in both Teshie and Nungua.
“He has been at the helm of this party’ affairs in these areas since 1992 and has continuously worked hard to ensure that the party is in power today,” a statement by the groups said.
“He started with Lawyer Ablorh in 1992 at Ledzokuku, then served Eddie Akita, Dr. Norley Ashietey, Member of Parliament (MP) Dr. Okoe Boye, before ending up as Campaign Manager for the current MP, Elizabeth Afoley Quaye, in the just-ended general election in Krowor,” they recalled.
They said the appointment of Mr. Bortey as MCE for LEKMA will enhance the chances of the NPP in future general election since he will be able to use his influence for the rapid development of those areas when given the chance.
They underscored, “We want very competent people to lead our assemblies and Mr. Bortey as we know him, fits into this category of people the Akufo-Addo government could use to bring development to the doorsteps of the people.”
