THE GHANA Standards Authority (GSA) has, on Wednesday, certified Sunsink Sanitization System, a solar-powered hand washing device.

The device, locally manufactured by Magnifico Solutions, is an initiative aimed at augmenting efforts by government in curbing the menace of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.

As part of safety precautions, regular use of hand sanitizers, covering of nose and mouth with face masks and regular hand washing under running water with soap have been recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Ghana Health Service (GHS).

The Sunsink hand washing device is a touch-free renewable energy powered system that delivers an eco-friendly clean hand wash to every user.

The water runs through the faucet and drains through the sink into a bowl to be disposed when full.

Also attached to the device are containers for liquid soap and a tissue wrap.

Speaking to journalists at the GSA premises in Accra on Wednesday morning, Director General of GSA, Alexander Dodoo, said the product, having gone through all requisite tests, had “satisfied all our requirements” and that “the device meets our standards.”

He commended the manufacturers for coming up with such an initiative as a touch-free hand washing device and said it would greatly help in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic while improving upon the health and safety conditions of the citizenry.

In his remarks, Nana Yaw Eugene, Co-Director of Magnifico Solutions, iterated that the device was made taking into consideration our closely-knit communal settings and socio-economic conditions.

He said there was the need to keep safe during the pandemic and added that the device could also be used post Covid-19.

He urged corporate organizations, religious bodies, social institutions, individuals and the general public to purchase some of the devices to keep at their various premises as it would significantly aide in the quest to keep safe.
