Guinness Ghana Promotes Responsible Drinking

Guinness Ghana Breweries Limited (GGBL) observed this year’s International Youth Day with a call on the youth aged between 18 and 35 to make positive choices about alcohol.

Speaking at the Ghana Youth Meeting organized by the Young Diplomats of Ghana (YDG), in partnership with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the World Bank, Corporate Relations Director of GGBL, Gabriel Opoku-Asare, said Ghana’s leading total beverage business was committed to reinforcing a common sense understanding of moderation when it comes to alcohol consumption.

Highlighting GGBL’s sustainability and responsibility agenda, particularly, the company’s Alcohol in Society programme, he noted that the business purpose was to celebrate life, every day, everywhere and as such had committed resources to promote responsible drinking in the areas of reducing drink driving, discouraging under-age drinking and providing information to consumers to enable them make informed choices about alcohol.

He further noted that to provide consumers with the information and tools they need to make informed choices about alcohol consumption, Guinness Ghana engages various stakeholders with tailored tools on alcohol education such as DrinkiQ.

Mr. Opoku-Asare, in a call to action, took participants through the DRINKiQ platform and urged them to use their influence as advocates to highlight issues around responsible consumption and advertisement of alcohol.

Participants at the two-day event were also given the opportunity to ‘Join the Pact,’ as they signed a pledge and made a commitment to never drink and drive.
