Gun Supplier Arrested In NPP Treasurer Murder

The police in the Western Region have arrested a man believed to be in his late 30s who is allegedly linked to the murder of the Takoradi Constituency Treasurer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mark Ofori.

Anthony Mensah, an alleged gun supplier at Amanful, a suburb of Takoradi, is believed to have supplied the gun that was allegedly used in the gruesome murder of the NPP treasurer.

It would be recalled that the assailant who killed the treasurer left behind the weapon suspected to have been used in the heinous crime.

The police, during their investigations, have been able to trace the supplier of the gun and arrested him from his hideout at Amanful. It was done by a night patrol team of the Regional Police Command at about 8pm on Sunday.

A source at the Regional Police Command confirmed to DAILY GUIDE that Anthony Mensah who was arrested upon a tip-off attempted to escape when he saw the patrol team approaching his vicinity.

“We gathered that the suspect was found fetching water from his residence at Amanful but when he saw the police approaching, he immediately removed his clothes in an attempt to escape arrest,” the source noted.

The source indicated that the arrest of Anthony Mensah could help unravel the mystery surrounding the unfortunate death of Mr. Ofori.

On Wednesday, October 30, the whole of Takoradi was thrown into a state of shock when Mr. Ofori was found shot dead at his residence at Fijai in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis.

The assailant reportedly went straight to the victim’s bedroom and shot him in the chest, killing him instantly. Preliminary checks showed that the suspect did not take anything from the house.
