Gunmen have attacked and killed one person at a Shell Filling Station close to Kakpayili near Lamashegu in Tamale in the Northern regional capital.
The armed men, numbering three with riffle, attacked the Shell Filling Station and tied up the watchman, Yahaya Naporo, 48 years, the pump attendant, Abubakari Shaibu, 29 and the shell shop salesgirl, Deborah Aduah, 22.
The Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) ASP Mohammed Yussif Tanko who confirmed the incident to DAILY GUIDE said, the armed men ransacked the place and broke the safe and made away with some unspecified amount of money.
According to him, the manager of the filling station, Michael Abaidow said the robbers spent about 4 hours at the scene shooting sporadically to scare those around.
He indicated that the watchman, Yahaya Naporo was later found dead after he was hit by a bullet from one of the robbers.
His body has since been deposited at the Tamale Teaching Hospital awaiting autopsy.
Crime, especially robbery, is on the rise in the northern regional capital.
Last year, mobile money operators were the target of these criminals in the region but the focus seems to have been shifted from the mobile money operators to filling stations. About six robbery cases had been recorded in the region within two weeks.
Unfortunately, the Northern Regional Police Command seemed to lack the necessary logistics and weapons to combat the seemingly high rate of crime in the region.
Some of their officers had lost their lives in line of operation and duty.
