FEMALE WORKERS of the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) say they are disappointed with the continuous lack of career advancement for junior staff of the company, describing the situation as unacceptable.

Speaking under the umbrella body called Ladies Association of Ghana Water Company Limited, the workers said despite acquiring the soft skills needed to move up into senior position roles, many of them had been denied the opportunity to advance in their career for the past three decades.

The National President of the association, Juliana Konama Amponsah-Asiamah, who made the disclosure, demanded an end to “lack of career progression” for the female workers of GWCL in particular.

She was addressing a staff durbar in Kumasi on Friday as part of the 30th anniversary celebration of the Ashanti Regional Ladies Association of GWCL.

According to her, several of their members had gone on retirement after working for close to 30 years without progressing up on the career ladder, and, therefore, wanted management of GWCL to take a critical look at it for remedy.

She said the female workers had contributed greatly to the success story of GWCL, especially in the areas of revenue mobilization and potable water provision which are the core mandate of the company.

The durbar was held on the theme: “Inclusiveness in Water, Sanitation and Hygiene – Leaving No One Behind.”

Mrs. Amponsah-Asiamah disclosed that the association had also helped in shaping the world since its inception in 1989 by supporting orphans and vulnerable persons in society, constructing boreholes for communities, and supporting education through donation to the Otumfuo Education Fund.

The Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister, Elizabeth Agyemang, who was the guest of honour, praised members of the association for their contributions to the performance of the company and the communities.

She entreated them to keep up the good work in the area of revenue mobilization to ensure that the company delivered on its core mandate at all times.
