Hannah Fitter Connects Ghana, Chicago Cuisines, Culture

Hannah Fitter addressing participants

The US Embassy in Ghana, through Regional Public Engagement Specialist Hannah Fitter, engaged the Ghanaian community on celebrating American culture, specifically highlighting the irresistible flavours of Chicago cuisine.

This initiative aims to promote cultural exchange and understanding between Ghana and the United States.

The event featured Hannah Fitter educating Ghanaian participants on some of Chicago’s flavourable dishes, including deep-dish pizza, Chicago-style hot dogs (no ketchup), Italian beef sandwiches, and the Jibarito (a sandwich using fried plantains instead of bread).

The engagement provided a platform for Ghanaian food enthusiasts to share ideas and explore ways to integrate Chicago products into local Ghanaian dishes.

This effort underscores the role of food as a powerful diplomatic tool that connects cultures and fosters mutual understanding. The US Embassy’s culinary engagement initiative is part of broader efforts to strengthen people-to-people ties and promote cultural exchange between Ghana and the US.

Speaking about her favourite dishes in Ghana, Hannah Fitter disclosed that she preferred fufu and beef soup.

“America cares for its citizens and it has tons of citizens here. Ghana’s largest nationality is American, and it as a result of the stability it enjoys (sic),” she stated.
