Herculean But It’s Possible

Dr Mahmudu Bawumia

Election 2024 is going to be a Herculean task for the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

That does not mean “it is not possible”. In the words of the NPP flagbearer, Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, ‘it’s possible’.

The road to victory on December 7, 2024, demands the closing of ranks and hard work by all NPP supporters.

We, therefore, urge President Akufo-Addo to shed the lame duck tag and live his name as Addo Showboy during the dying minutes of his reign.

First of all, the President must get some of his appointees to end the craze for hikes in services during these crucial and difficult times.

The frustrations on the faces of our people quite unfortunately portray our government as no longer a listening one concerned about the plight of the people.

It appears our party and government that believe in development in freedom is now following on the destructive path of John Mahama’s “yen tie obiaraa”, and making the once popular “kukrudu” the people’s enemy.

That is why we think that despite the lamentations of the people that times are hard, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs deems it fit to increase fees for passports. As if that is not enough, the National Identification Authority (NIA) has also announced new fees for the Ghana Card.

While the people scream about the vagaries of the present power challenges that the government refuses to accept to be dumsor, the Ministry of Energy is engaged in semantics and theatrics instead of real action to prove to the people that it is really “dumsie sie” but not John Mahama’s dumsor.

We keep reiterating the point that most of the concerns being raised by the people have arisen because the appointees of President Akufo-Addo take delight in scoring own goals.

They seem also to be satisfied with their personal comforts and not efforts to retain power to do more for the people.

The NPP and its appointees are regularly arming the opposition NDC to capitalise on during their lame campaigns to lie to the people that John Mahama is on a rescue mission.

Till date, John Mahama who is desperate for power, but wants Ghanaians to grant him the space for honeymoon, is yet to provide alternatives to the government’s policies besides the 24-hour economy. The free SHS, the most popular pro-poor policy since nationhood remains John Mahama’s nightmare. He is yet to outline any alternative to that policy except to say that in the first hundred days he would engage in stakeholder consultations.

The own goals make John Mahama who was disgraced at the polls in 2016 look like a saint and the saviour.

John Mahama cannot be the viable alternative and to render him a spent force from now on, we make an urgent appeal to Dr. Bawumia to end the streak of own goals and take charge of the architecture to ‘break the eight’.

This is not negotiable. It is the imperative to make the NDC and John Mahama irrelevant in our political space.
