High Turnout In Schools At Tema

SCHOOLS IN the Tema Metropolis of the Greater Accra Region, especially private schools saw a high turnout when schools reopened yesterday after COVID-19 forced a shutdown for about nine months.

Students including those at kindergarten were seen coming to the schools in their numbers, wearing face masks and following the COVID-19 safety instructions as directed by their teachers.

Junior High School (JHS) students were however attending classes during the shutdown of schools.

Some private school teachers welcomed the decision to resume the classes with school management committee members welcoming the students and offering them a tour of the schools to see safety measures put in place to start academic work.

Assistant headmistress of the Oprah Winfrey Academy, Beatrice Asare, was happy with the high turnout of pupils, stressing on the need to enforce the COVID-19 safety protocols as school commences.

A form 2 student, Rebecca Ashittey, also shared her excitement of being back in school.

Assembly member for the Sealight Electoral Area, Frank Otoo, who was assigned to the Metropolitan Monitoring Team, was happy with the level of compliance and commitment by school authorities and students, in ensuring safety protocols.

With all the schools visited by DAILY GUIDE, students and pupils from KG to JHS were seen in their nose masks, with majority also observing the social distancing protocols.

A form 2 student, Vivian Armah said, “The school complex, furniture, necessary materials have been sanitised and sanitisers have also been provided to the schools and seating arrangement made to maintain appropriate distance in the classrooms.”

She seized the opportunity to encourage her colleagues at home to return to school to boost student enrolment.
