Hohoe Stands Still as Amewu’s Sister Goes Home

The deceased

Hohoe, the capital of the Hohoe Municipality in the Volta Region came to a standstill when thousands of mourners joined the Energy Minister, John Peter Amewu, to bid his late sister, Esther Dey, farewell.

The late Esther Dey popularly known as Nee Amewu-Duglu, died on August 12, 2019, at the Tema General Hospital.

A trait which attracted many people to her and the family, apart from the fact that she was also known as a die-hard member of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), was her generosity and therefore her funeral even brought members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to Hohoe.

Most of the tributes that poured in at the St. Augustine’s Catholic Church in Hohoe described her as a ‘kind hearted’ individual who loved all people unconditionally.

Sympathisers like former President Jerry John Rawlings, Speaker of Parliament, Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye, NPP Chairman Freddy Blay, and Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong, among others were all present at the funeral.
