Former President Nana Akufo-Addo has emphasized that his government will be remembered as one that championed development and equality.
Speaking during a thanksgiving mass held in his honour at Accra Ridge Church, former President Akufo-Addo outlined the significant progress made during his two terms, highlighting the long-term impact of his administration’s policies on Ghana’s future.
“The records of my two governments in educational reform, healthcare delivery, industrial development, agricultural expansion, infrastructural development, digital transformation, and environmental protection are now part of our history,” Mr. Akufo-Addo stated.
He expressed confidence in the enduring benefits of his initiatives, asserting that while immediate results may be visible, it is ultimately history that will judge their effectiveness.
In his address, Mr. Akufo-Addo highlighted key achievements from his tenure, including the strengthening of national security amid rising terrorism threats in the Sahelian region and the revival of Ghana’s economy following significant challenges.
He also noted the successful promotion of Ghana’s tourism potential, the enhancement of the nation’s global image, and contributions to the integration of ECOWAS and engagement with the global African community.
Despite acknowledging that every administration faces criticism, Mr. Akufo-Addo remained resolute in defending his contributions.
“Despite what the naysayers say, I did my best for Ghana,” he asserted, expressing satisfaction with the accomplishments of his presidency.
Mr. Akufo-Addo was also honored during his Thanksgiving Mass for his political leadership and the remarkable health and resilience he exhibited during his eight years in office.
Rt. Rev. Dr. Daniel Sylvanus Mensah Torto, the Anglican Bishop of Accra, presented a citation acknowledging the significant achievements of Mr. Akuffo-Addo’s administration, particularly in education, economic development, industrialization, and his steadfast commitment to democratic principles.
The citation also recognized the former President’s contributions to the Anglican Church in Ghana, reflecting his support for religious institutions during his time in office.
His efforts were seen as a testament to his belief in the importance of education, economic growth, and nurturing spiritual and social values.
