Farouk Aliu Mahama with Hajia Abibata Shanni Mahama Zakariah
The Chief Executive Officer for the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Hajia Abibata Shanni Mahama Zakariah, has accepted the decision of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), to declare her opponent, Alhaji Farouk Aliu Mahama, as the Parliamentary Candidate for the 2024 parliamentary elections for the Yendi Constituency.
“I strongly disagree with this decision but in the supreme interest of the Party, the President of the Republic, H. E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and the Presidential Candidate of the party H. E. Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, and all well-meaning members of our esteemed party, I respect the party’s decision”.
A statement signed by the General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua read “The National Executive Committee has confirmed Hon. Farouk Aliu Mahama as the party’s parliamentary candidate for the constituency”.
She, however, expressed her displeasure about the decision of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the New Patriotic Party(NPP) saying she was not treated fairly.
“Let me state for the records that I was not treated fairly, and the Party did not follow the rule of natural Justice”.
The Masloc CEO thanked delegates and the good people of Yendi for the massive support and love they showed her on the January 27, 2024, parliamentary elections.
“I urge my Campaign team members, supporters, and sympathizers to agree with the decision of the Party and together we wish the new candidate the best of luck in the 2024 elections”.
She assured that she would avail myself of any task that would be assigned to her to ensure that the NPP wins both the Presidential and Parliamentary contests in the Yendi constituency during the 2024 elections.
It will be recalled that on January 27, 2024, an EC official stationed at the Yendi New Patriotic Party primary was arrested by the police for allegedly pocketing ballot papers during the counting process.
The situation created some confusion at the venue which halted the counting process due to the destruction of the counted ballot papers and some election materials.
The 3rd National Vice Chairman of the NPP, Alhaji Osman Masawudu, declared Farouk Aliu Mahama as the winner after a consultation with the regional and national executives of the party.
Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission (EC), had called for a re-run of the Yendi Constituency Parliamentary Election of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) due to the inconclusive nature of the initial election on January 27, 2024.
