THE GHANA Police Service has dispatched professional clinical psychologists and counselors to Alaska, a suburb of Abesim in the Bono Region where three persons were reportedly killed and their body parts preserved in a refrigerator upon the instructions of the acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) George Akuffo Dampare.
The IGP gave the order after visiting the crime scene on Sunday to commiserate with the families if the victims.
The psychologists and counselors are expected to counsel traumatized family members, especially parents of the murdered persons and Abesim community members at large.
Additionally, the Homicide Unit of the Ghana Police Service has been tasked to take over investigation at the Police Headquarters in Accra.
Immediately, forensic pathologists are to move to the remains to Police Hospital morgue in Accra for analysis as part of swift investigation.
Last Saturday, a 28-year-old Richard Appiah, an architect was apprehended by police when community members, who were searching for a missing boy, Louis Agyeman, found him dead in his room, together with the head of Stephen Sarpong, who had also been missing since Sunday, August 15, 2021.
Stephen’s head, together with several other human parts were packed in a refrigerator while the body of Louis Agyeman was lying on the floor with bloodstains around the head.
The Police were then contacted which led to the subsequent arrest of Richard Appiah, who is a relative of Louis Agyeman.
Meanwhile, another suspect, name withheld has been arrested by the police in the area and assisting with investigation.
IGP Dampare appealed to the Abesim Community to support police investigations with any “little” information in connection with the tragic murder of the three young men in the town.
Describing the incident as painful and worrying, the IGP entreated the deceased families to take comfort in God, assuring that the police would leave no stone unturned to ensure justice prevailed.
Tragedy hit the farming community in the early hours of Saturday, when Richard Appiah, a popular footballer and architect, allegedly murdered his 12-year-old relative, with two others, and kept the body in a room.
Police have since retrieved and deposited the bodies of Louis Agyemang Junior, Stephen Sarpong and a yet to be identified body at a private mortuary at Mantukwa in the Sunyani West Municipality.
The IGP told the family the police would transfer the bodies to Accra for further investigations, saying the bodies would be brought back to the families when investigations were completed.
Dr Dampare said though the deaths of the three young men were beyond human imagination and it was only God who could explain that, the police would ensure that anybody in connection with the crime was arrested and prosecuted.
He urged the families to be comforted saying from Tuesday, August 24, the police would dispatch Counsellors from its headquarters to counsel the mothers of the deceased children.
“A team of investigators from the CID headquarters are on their way coming to support investigations and I assured you that justice would prevail in this matter,” the IGP told the families.
Earlier, the IGP held closed-door discussions with Barimah Kumi Acheaw, Chief of Abesim and Kyidomhene of the Dormaa Traditional Area.
Dr Dampare and his entourage also visited the crime scene at Alaska, a new settlement.
