The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), David Asante Apeatu, together with members of the Police Management Board over the weekend joined the family of the late Corporal Daniel Adu Tieku, to give the deceased police officer a befitting burial at Adukrom-Akuapem in the Eastern Region.
The late corporal met his untimely death on July 12, 2018, after being shot by armed robbers while performing escort duties on the Manso Ayirebikrom and Agroyesum road in the Ashanti Region.
During the funeral, the slain officer was posthumously promoted to the rank of General-Corporal by the IGP for his bravery and valour.
Also present at the funeral were COP Prosper Agblor, Director-General in charge of welfare; DCOP Amponsah Asiamah, Director-General in charge of services; the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Kwasi Mensah Duku; and his deputy, DCOP Adu Amim; and DCOP Alphonse Adu Amankwah, the Eastern Regional Commander.
The late Lance Corporal Daniel Tieku was stationed at the Formed Police Unit (FPU).
He was assigned operation duty at Manso Kumpese in the Ashanti Region when on July 11, 2018, he was on escort duty together with Lance Corporal Eric Kwabena Nsiah in a Sprinter bus with registration Number AC 644-15.
Upon reaching a section of the road between Manso Ayirebikrom and Agroyesum, the bus and its passengers were attacked and robbed by about eight masked men dressed in “military uniforms” and wielding Ak47 and G.3 guns.
In an attempt to protect the passengers, the robbers shot Lance Corporal Daniel Tieku in his abdomen.
He was rushed to St. Martins Hospital at Agroyesum where he was operated upon but he died the next day.
Lance Corporal Eric Kwabena Nsiah who sustained injuries is still recovering.
