I’m On IGP’s Payroll- Bugri Naabu

Daniel Bugri Naabu

In a shocking revelation, former Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Daniel Bugri Naabu, has announced that he is on the payroll of Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr George Akuffo Dampare.

The revelation came to light in a leaked video that has sparked outrage among Ghanaians and called for an immediate investigation into the allegations raised in the video.

According to Bugri Naabu, he receives GH¢10,000 as a monthly payment, which should stay off the attention of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

He expressed concern that the President’s attention may affect his trust in him due to the kickback he allegedly receives from the IGP.

In the latest leaked video, Bugri Naabu is also heard discussing a contract offered to someone by the IGP and how he and some individuals are requesting their share of the money from the deal.

This recent development has landed the IGP in hot waters.

The leaked video surfaced on Thursday, September 7, 2023.

The video features Bugri Naabu discussing a supposed unhealthy deal involving the IGP, which has sparked outrage among Ghanaians. Many have taken to social media to condemn the actions of the former NPP Regional Chairman and the IGP, calling for a full-blown investigation into the matter to restore public confidence in the police administration.

The Ghana Police Service has not commented on the video, while the IGP has not responded publicly to the allegations levelled against him. However, many are calling for him to come out clean on the matter. Ghanaians await the outcome of the police investigation to determine the credibility of the allegations raised in the leaked video.

This comes after COP George Mensah, one of the top police officers at the centre of the alleged plot to kick out the current Inspector General of Police, accused the IGP for orchestrating the recording of the leaked tape and has the original copy.

COP Mensah made the claim when he appeared before the ad-hoc parliamentary committee probing the issue on Friday, September 1, 2023.

He said he believes the audio currently before the parliament is heavily doctored.

When the committee members demanded the whereabouts of the supposed original copy of the audio, COP Mensah said they should get it from Dr. Dampare since he has the original copy.

“My intel suggests that what was used to tape the conversation was done by the current IGP. He sent some people to do it and after which he went for it and so the tape, from my intel is with the IGP, and he caused it to be leaked and so if this committee wants the tape, then it should contact the IGP for it.”
