I’m Taking My Position Very Serious- Speaker

Speaker of Parliament, Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin has promised Ghanaians that he is taking his position very serious to ensure that Ghana’s Legislature serves the people well.

He assured Ghanaians of his commitment to ensure that the people of Ghana are properly served by the elected members.

Speaker Bagbin made these remarks when addressing a gathering of Chiefs at the Togbe Afede palace in Ho, the Volta Region where he and some Members of Parliament are attending a two-day post budget workshop in the region.

As part of his activities there, the Speaker paid a courtesy call on the Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State, President of the Asogli State, Togbe Afedi XIV.

He said he also places premium on the fact the Ghanaians deserve better.

Togbe Afedi, welcoming Speaker and his delegation, spoke about the economic potential of Ghana, stating that the fact that we could not provide for ourselves during the COVID 19 period, in spite of our many resources show how vulnerable we are as a people.

He spoke also about the high unemployment rate in the country and urged that something his done as soon as possible to reverses this trend.

He added that there is a need to improve amenities like educational facilities, road networks etc, urging that roads already started be completed.

He furthered pointed to the politicization of the various arms of government and called on Parliament to strengthen itself for better services to the people.

He bemoaned the high cost of borrowing and pointed out how that is affecting private business.

He called for a separation between the chairmanship and governorship of the Bank of Ghana to ensure that the appropriate checks and balances are in place.
