JB ‘Killers’ Committal Process For Sept 19

Vincent Bosso and Daniel Asiedu

The Attorney General’s Office is expected to begin committal proceedings for two persons who have been accused of murdering the former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Abuakwa North, JB Danquah-Adu.

This follows the handing over of the reviewed docket on the two accused persons- Daniel Asiedu, aka Sexy Don Don –a phone dealer and Vincent Bosso, aka Junior Agogo, phone repairer, to the AG’s Office.

The prosecution, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police George Amega, yesterday told the court that the prosecution had forwarded the docket to the AG’s Office which would start the committal hearing at the next sitting date.

He, therefore, prayed the court to adjourn the matter to allow the AG to study the new docket for the committal proceedings to begin.

A ranking member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and private legal practitioner, Nana Obiri Boahen, who held brief for the family of the deceased, received the news from the prosecution with happiness, saying “My lord this is good news.”

The court, presided over by Magistrate Arit Nsemoh, also nodded in agreement with the lawyer, saying the statement from the prosecution is indeed positive.

She subsequently adjourned the matter to September 19, 2018 for the committal proceedings to commence.

Speaking to the media after the court proceedings, Nana Obiri Boahen, expressed delight with the prosecution’s statement.

He expressed optimism that the AG’s representative would be in court on September 19 for the committal proceedings to start.

Judge’s Fury

The magistrate was delighted because the prosecution, prior to yesterday’s proceedings, had given several excuses and prayed for numerous adjournments.

This compelled Magistrate Arit Nsemoh to express anger over undue delay of the matter.

She wondered why the prosecution in the matter appears to be handling the matter at such a slow pace even though the incident occurred about three years ago.

She said: “This is a whole MP. If we can treat a whole MP like this what happens to my poor old grandmother selling Gari in the market. Or if I die is this how you are going to treat me? Why are you behaving like this,” the Magistrate, who was clearly frustrated, fumed.

The magistrate made the comments after the prosecution, led by DSP Amega, prayed the court to adjourn the matter for it to get the bill of indictment ready.

Her Worship Arit Nsemoh, on numerous occasions, lambasted the prosecution for delaying the matter.

The prosecution prayed the court for adjournment, saying it was waiting for the advice of the Attorney-General on the matter.

She said the 1992 Constitution guarantees fair trial and within fair trial is also a provision for speedy trial.

The magistrate noted that the accused persons had been in custody for almost three years while the family of victim was also demanding justice.

Sober Sexy Don Don

Daniel Asiedu, alias Sexy Don Don, who is usually vocal, was calm in court yesterday.

He did not make any gestures to draw the attention of the Magistrate.
