JHS Boy Commits Suicide Over SHS Placement

A 16-year-old Junior High School (JHS) leaver who thought he would not be admitted by any Senior High School (SHS) in the country due to his performance in the Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE) has reportedly committed suicide.

The unfortunate incident happened yesterday at Tarkwa in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipality of the Western Region.

The deceased, Daniel Mensah, allegedly committed suicide by hanging after obtaining aggregate 24 in the BECE.

The deceased left a note for his mother before he took the action.

The note read “Mom, do not think about me anymore. I will kill myself and leave this earth and I can’t stay anymore because I did not get school. I know I did not do well, but somebody had 47 and got a school. Why me?”

According to the Tarkwa District Police Commander, Supt. Osei Ababio, the uncle of the deceased Ebo Ayitey made a formal report to his outfit.

He mentioned that when the police got to the scene, they found the boy hanging on the ceiling with a scarf.

Supt Ababio indicated that the body has been deposited at the Apinto Government Hospital morgue pending autopsy.

Mr Ayitey confirmed that his nephew scored aggregate 24 in the BECE.
