The Member of Parliament for Damongo in the Savannah Region, Samuel Abu Jinapor, has launched a Women Empowerment Programme in his constituency.

Mr. Jinapor who doubles as the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, during the launch of the project, lauded the women for their contributions toward the development of the constituency, especially in agriculture.

He said the initiative which is a disbursement of cash support for women to support their trading and other activities, is a campaign promise he made to them during the 2020 election period.

The MP said the criteria used by the committee for the disbursement of the cash is not on partisan, tribal or religious lines since every woman in the constituency is entitled to it.

He appealed to them to put the money to judicious use to meet its intended purpose and further pledged to work closely with other stakeholders to raise more funds to support many more women through the programme, which he believes will make an impact in their well-being.

The MP further hinted at supporting the youth in a similar way in the constituency to reduce the rate of unemployment and poverty.

Savannah Regional Minister, Saeed Jibril Muhazu, praised the Damongo MP for the initiative and also appealed to the women to use the money to boost and establish businesses, which will, in the end, be of enormous benefit to them and the constituency as a whole.
