Gospel musician, Joe Mettle, has announced that he will not participate in the 2026 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), revealing that he has decided to take a break from the awards scheme for this year.
Speaking in an interview on Hitz FM, the multiple award-winning musician disclosed that his decision means he will neither submit his works for nomination nor be involved in any activities related to the awards.
According to Joe Mettle, he has already communicated his position to the organisers of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards, and the matter has been amicably resolved.
“No, I’ve actually had a conversation with them, so we are fine. I am taking a small break from the TGMA for this year. I won’t be around; that’s why. I saw the date, and I won’t be around,” he said.
Joe Mettle has emerged as the most played Ghanaian gospel artiste on UK radio for January 2026 with 47 spins, solidifying his international presence, according to Charts Ghana.
This achievement comes after his recent announcement to skip the 2026 Telecel Ghana Music Awards to focus on other projects.
Joe Mettle’s breakthrough came in 2017 when he won the Artiste of the Year, Gospel Artiste of the Year, and Male Vocalist Artiste of the Year awards at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA).
This achievement marked a milestone as he became the first gospel artiste to win the prestigious Artiste of the Year award. Joe Mettle has released six albums – My Gratitude (2011), Sound of Praise (2013), The Encounter (2015), God Of Miracles (2017), Wind of Revival (2019), and The Experience (2021).
With over 10 local and international awards, Joe Mettle has received recognition at the Africa Gospel Music Awards, Gospel Industry Awards, African Gospel Awards (UK), CCML Ghana Gospel Awards, Bass Awards, and RIGA Awards (South Africa).
