Kwabena Mintah Akandoh

Member of Parliament (MP) for Juaboso, Kwabena Minta Akandoh, survived a car crash at the weekend after his Toyota Land Cruiser collided head on with a Mercedes Benz sprinter bus on the Bibiani-Kumasi highway.

DAILY GUIDE gathered that the opposition legislator was returning to Accra after visiting his constituency when the tragedy occurred around 5:30 p.m.

Reports said he was in the car with a police bodyguard, Corporal Joseph Ntimbe, and his driver, Joseph Amo, who was behind the wheel of the Toyota Land Cruiser with registration number GN 441-14.

According to various accounts, the MP’s Land Cruiser vehicle, which was speeding, made a wrong overtaking while the hazard lights were on, but the speeding oncoming Benz bus with registration number AS 7363-18, which was coming from Kumasi towards Sefwi Wiawso, could not veer off the road and collided head-on.

The MP was hospitalised in a critical but stable condition at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), while the passengers onboard the sprinter bus were taken to the Nyinahin Government Hospital in the Ashanti Region for treatment of various degrees of injuries.

His bodyguard, Corporal Joseph Ntimbe, is also said to be in critical condition at the KATH, as the incident caused major damage to both vehicles as well as significant injuries to the occupants.

Reports said emergency services were instantly contacted, while local police and medical staff responded quickly to manage the situation and ensure the injured victims received urgent medical attention.
