THE MANAGEMENT of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi has decided to name wards in the medical facility after benevolent people and organisations who would accept to renovate the wards and upgrade them to acceptable standards.

Chief Executive Officer at KATH, Professor Otchere Addai-Mensah, who made the disclosure during KATH staff awards ceremony in Kumasi, observed that some of the wards in the hospital required immediate upgrade in order to meet international standards.

According to him, the hospital, currently, does not have the financial might to solely bear the cost of renovating the wards to meet international standards, therefore, management has decided to fall on well-meaning individuals and organisations to assist the hospital in that regard.

Prof. Otchere Addai-Mensah, who is widely regarded as a visionary and a development-oriented leader, announced that any person or organisation who would extend a helping hand to KATH in renovating the wards, would be honoured with the naming of the renovated ward.

Dubbed as the ‘KATH Annual Thanksgiving and Staff Awards Ceremony’, a total of 40 members of staff from departments and units of the largest hospital in the northern sector of the country were given awards in the long service and performance categories.

Dr. Augustine Tawiah from the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Directorate won the overall best KATH worker, receiving GH¢15,000 as prize money, followed by Patrick Anim from the Human Resource Department, 1st runner-up, who took home GH¢10,000, while Angela Boahen, emerged 2nd runner-up and took home GH¢5,000.

Addressing members of the KATH board, management and staff of the hospital, the KATH CEO highly commended workers of the medical facility for their “continued sacrifices, hard work and support,” which has contributed to transform the hospital for so many years.

Prof. Addai-Mensah, on behalf of the KATH management, pledged to do their utmost best to always resource the personnel of the hospital so they would be able to give their best.

He said to maintain constant physical presence at KATH, departmental heads have been tasked to take routine visits to their operational areas during week days, adding “The various directorate management teams have also been tasked to assign a member to be on duty during those periods so that together with directors, operational issues could be addressed in a swift and coordinated manner.”
