Kenya swears-in First woman Chief Justice

Justice Martha Karambu Koome

Kenya’s first female Chief Justice, Justice Martha Karambu Koome, has been Sworn-in.

Justice Koome was appointed by President Uhuru Kenyatta, and inaugurated on Friday, May 21, 2021.

Justice Koome succeeds David Maraga who retired on January 12, 2021

Justice Martha Karambu Koome’s nomination was been approved by the National Assembly of Kenya.

She is a Human Rights advocate, She becomes the first woman to assume office as Chief Justice of Kenya.

Justice Koome has 33 years of experience in law and is aged 61 years.
