Keta MCE Confirmed

Godwin Edudzi Effah

Assembly members of the Keta Municipal Assembly (KMA) have overwhelmingly confirmed the President’s nominee – Godwin Edudzi Effah – as the new Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Keta.

Out of 30 votes cast, Mr. Effah swept 28 ‘Yes’ votes against two ‘No’ votes, representing 93.3% votes in his favour – the Electoral Commission confirmed after the votes were cast last Monday.

Mr. Effah’s confirmation settles the confusion between some members of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the area, especially the constituency executives, over the eligibility of the nominee. The NPP members, including some branch executives, in a petition and protest described Mr. Effah as an ‘alien’ who is from Anloga and not Keta, for which reason they wanted his nomination withdrawn.

However, the constituency executives described the claims as false, especially when the nominee was a known member of the party at Keta, where he lives and casts his votes.

Despite the confusion, the assembly members of the KMA found Effah worthy and competent, by confirming him with their votes. His confirmation was met with massive jubilation in the Keta Assembly Hall, where the election was held.

The Volta Regional Minister, Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa, and his deputy, Mr. Johnson Avuletey, who were present at the event, appealed to residents, party members, opposition and assembly members to give Mr. Effah maximum support to deliver development to them.

Mr. Effah, who was sworn in by the presiding judge of the Keta Circuit Court, Mr. Kwame Polley, replaces Mr. Seth Yormenu, who has been moved to the newly inaugurated Anloga District Assembly carved out of the Keta Municipality as its first DCE.

The New MCE thanked the people for the confidence reposed in him and promised to unite all stakeholders of the district towards his agenda of revenue generation for development of the municipality.

He expressed his commitment towards the extension of electricity to all parts of the municipality and the fixing of roads in the area.

Presiding Members Elected

Prior to the confirmation of the MCE, the assembly members also elected Wilson Kofi Bonuedi as the new presiding member for the Keta Municipal Assembly.

Mr. Bonuedi, who is a former staff of the Lands Commission and a three-term assembly member for Anyako, also got 28 ‘Yes’ votes and two ‘No’ votes out of 30 votes cast, representing 93.3% votes in his favour.

He thanked the assembly members and also pledged to lead them to generate adequate revenue, especially from property rate and businesses to facilitate development in the area.
