‘Killer’ SHS Student, Others Remanded

KILLED! Sam’una Larhan

It is emerging that the senior high school student who is in the grips of the police for murder, allegedly used a knife in his school cutlery set to commit the heinous crime.

The Konongo-Odumase Senior High School (KOSS) was sent into a state of shock when a Form Two student, Emmanuel Osei Frimpong, aka ‘Tupac’, 17, stabbed Sam’una Larhan, 15, a first-year student in the lower rib leading to his untimely death.

A District Court in Konongo in the Ashanti Akim Central of the Ashanti Region yesterday remanded Tupac alongside four other students who were at the scene, into custody pending further investigation into the case.

The court presided over by Her Worship Joyce Bamfo ordered that the students, aged between 16 and 17, be kept for seven days at the Juaso Juvenile Detention Centre.

Those arrested alongside Tupac included Emmanuel Osei Frimpong, Amoah Kwasi Karikari aka Demon, Kwame Afrane Snr, Kwame Afrane Jnr and Obed Agyei, who are all second-year students as the main suspects.

An Assembly Member for the area, Samuel Ohene, claimed that the knife used in the alleged murder was part of cutlery set students were asked to bring to school.

According to him, the student was stabbed in the left side of his abdomen during the scuffle, adding that the body was released to the deceased’s family for burial on Sunday at the Odumase Central Mosque as Islamic customs demand.

“The knife used was part of the required cutlery set for dining. It is possible the knife was sharpened by the suspect for the purpose. The school has a good security system. This is the first time something like this is happening,” he said on Starr FM.

The Asante-Akim Central Municipal Police Commander, DSP Adu Agyemang Duah said Assistant Headmaster of the school, David Kwabena Asare, assisted by the police arrested Tupac and one other student on Friday at about 21:50 hours before the rest were picked up.

He said the police proceeded to the hospital, where doctors had declared the victim dead and conveyed the body to the Steward Mortuary for preservation and autopsy before the release of the body to the family for burial.

“Police investigations disclosed that the students closed from prep at about 20:30 hours and went back to their various dormitories. These five suspects who are all in form two ganged up and decided to go to house three to bully the first-year students and they first attacked one Kwame Manu,” he said.

The commander said police preliminary investigations showed that  Sam’una Larhan, was trying to rescue his colleague first-year student, who was then being harassed by Tupac and his gang, and in the process, he was stabbed in the lower rib area by Tupac.

The police said a blood-stained sharp knife that Tupac allegedly used to stab the first-year student, was retrieved.

“They first attacked Kwame Boampong Manu aka Network and assaulted him. The suspects then moved to the mini market and grabbed one of the form one students by name Prince Amoako, in an attempt to molest him. The other first-year students resisted and rescued Amoako.

“Their action annoyed suspect Emmanuel Osei Frimpong, who rushed on one of the first-year students in an attempt to slap him, and he was stopped by the deceased. This annoyed Suspect Frimpong who brought out a small kitchen knife, concealed on him, and stabbed the deceased at his left lower rib.”

“Sam’una Larhan bled profusely and was rushed to Konongo Odumase Government Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival,” the police report said, adding that calm had been restored in school.
