A bulldozer destroying some of the illegal structures
THE KUMASI Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has finally cleared the way at Abrepo Junction to Suame roundabout for the Suame Interchange project to smoothly proceed.
Using bulldozers and other machinery, the KMA personnel demolished structures that were illegally positioned and were preventing the progress of the Suame Interchange project.
Scores of residents of the boisterous city, mostly traders, were illegally occupying some portions of the road from the Abrepo Junction direction to Suame Roundabout area.
The Abrepo Junction to Suame roundabout, per reports, is part of the Suame Interchange road project, so the presence of the illegal inhabitants was adversely affecting the project.
The contractors working on the Suame Interchange project had sought the assistance of the KMA to help remove the people from the road, for the project to continue.
On August 25, 2026, the Kumasi Mayor, Richard Ofori Agyeman Boadi and some road engineers visited the place and announced the evacuation plan to the affected people.
After the mayor’s visit, the KMA Public Relations Unit also issued a directive to traders and garage owners in the area to vacate the place latest by September 7, 2026.
The KMA, again on October 1, 2026, issued a final notice, stating that the deadline for the affected people to leave the place had been extended to October 7, 2026.
Again, just a day before the demolition operation, the Kumasi Mayor, nicknamed Zuba, reportedly defied a downpour as he led a task force to the site to issue a final warning.
The paper has gathered that most of the affected people heeded to the KMA’s numerous warnings and voluntarily vacated the place before the demolition exercise, which was done under heavy security protection.
