KNUST Alumni Calls For Calm

Dr. Kwaku Agbesi

The Global Kwame Nkrumah University of Science & Technology (KNUST) Alumni Association has noted with concern the purported threats by some unknown individuals to destabilise the peaceful academic environment on the KNUST campus.

The association has, therefore, called for calm on campus.

In a statement issued and signed by its President, Kwaku Agbesi, the association indicated that the violent threats were supposedly in connection with dissatisfaction over the conversion of Africa, University and Unity Halls into mixed halls of residence.

The Chancellor of KNUST, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the association indicated, has assured all that he is studying the report of the Rose Owusu’s Committee and upon consultation with all stakeholders of the university would make known his judgements.

“The resolution of these issues therefore rests with our revered Chancellor and we the members of the Global Alumni Association have confidence in his ability to deliver on his promise,” Mr. Agbesi highlighted.

“The Global KNUST Alumni Association, therefore, fully supports the call by the SRC and GRASAG for all to remain calm and avoid any form of violent confrontations which would potentially disrupt the 2019/2020 academic calendar and bring the name of the university into disrepute,” it urged.
