Members of the group launching the fund
PHARM88, led by Emmanuel Kwesi Eghan, Principal Technical Advisor, MSH-USA, has launched a fund in Accra with a seed money of GH¢88,000 to cater for distressed students at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science Technology (KNUST).
The group is made up of pharmacists who passed out from KNUST in 1988. The initiative is to celebrate their 30th milestone out of school. It aims at ensuring that all pharmacy students successfully complete pharmacy education.
“No pharmacy student(s) should drop out of school for lack of financial resources due to a change in circumstances such as death of parents, etc,” the group stated.
The PHARM88 batch includes Prof. Alex Dodoo, Director-General, Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) and Past President of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana (PSGH), Eunice Akosua Ofosua Amoako, Global President- KNUST Alumni Association & Past National Chair – The Lady Pharmacists Association of Ghana (LAPAG), Mr Benoni Commodore, Manager Pharmacy Operations, Nyack Health System, New York USA, Gertrude Dorcas Laryea, among others.
The acceptance of ‘Fund Objectives and Collaboration with Schools of Pharmacy’ was delivered by Prof. Mahama Duweijua, Former Executive Secretary, National Council of Tertiary and former Dean KNUST Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. He represented the Dean of the KNUST Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.
As part of the programme, the group presented a plaque and cheque to Dr. Leslie Atta Akplah, the best all round Doctor of Pharmacy Student.
