Koforidua Residents Live In Fear

RESIDENTS of Koforidua are living in apprehension over the scourge of rampant robbery attacks in the Eastern Regional capital.

Some of the residents living around Two Streams, Trom, Mile 50, Okorase, Pipeline and Bonya, among the surrounding communities, in the past weeks, had expressed concern over non – stop robbery attacks.

Scores of the residents who called onto some radio programmes in the region expressed concern about the menace and how some of them had fallen victim to the activities of these criminals at gun or knife-point.

The residents were apprehensive that the absence of street lights in most of the areas in the Municipality could exacerbate the situation.

They have consequently appealed to the Police to increase their patrols especially at night in the New Juaben Municipality.

They pointed out that though the police have mounted many roadblocks in the town at night that did not seem to deter the robbers.

Last week for instance, some robbers reportedly attacked a Medical Doctor at a gunpoint at his private residence at Osabane – Mile 50 at about 9:30 pm and made away with some valuables in addition to an unspecified amount of money.

Among the valuables stolen were a flat screen television, mobile phones and a silver-green coloured Nissan Sunny car with registration number, E/R 943-13.

The armed-gang, which is believed to consist of four members, was reported to have carried out a similar operation at a different suburb earlier in the week.

The gang reportedly attacked a hotel at Atekyem and robbed the occupants of some items and money.
