Krobo Youth Clash With Chief Over Durbar Grounds

The Intervention of a joint Police force averted a blood bath at Odumase in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality of the Eastern Region over a durbar ground.

The incident reportedly occurred yesterday, at the Osiekuse durbar grounds in the Manya Krobo Traditional Area when some angry youth of Osiekuse stopped the Divisional Chief of Piengua from launching this year’s Piengua Ngmayem Festival on the durbar grounds.

The Divisional Chief of Piengua, Nene Tetteh Zogli III, was leading some elders and people of the Piengua Traditional Area to the grounds to launch the festival slated for the 26th of October, 2021.

But the youth in their hundreds led by the youth leader, Niewimatse Daniel Tetteh, stopped the entourage from entering the grounds to hold the function.

The incident created chaos which took the intervention of the Police to claim the situation.

The leader of the youth, Niewiamatse Daniel Tetteh explained that the durbar grounds belonged to the chiefs and people of Osiekuse against the claim to the place by Nene Tetteh Zoli.

They also say the intentions to hold the event were contrary to the President’s ban on social gatherings.

Meanwhile, the Police have declared the venue as a security zone, though no arrest has been made yet.
