Parts of the collapsed ceiling at the Kumasi City Mall
SOME PORTIONS of the ceiling of Kumasi City Mall collapsed on Tuesday morning.
The wooden ceiling just caved in when shop owners were preparing to start work. Fortunately, no injuries were recorded following the sudden collapse of the ceiling, as few people were at the mall when the incident occurred. The few people quickly took to their heels to avoid being injured.
News about the collapse of the ceiling spread like wild fire throughout Kumasi and the nearby communities.
Officials of NADMO, led by their Regional Coordinator – Kwabena Nsenkyire – quickly rushed to the Kumasi City Mall.
During a visit to the place, personnel of NADMO and workers of the Kumasi City Mall were jointly clearing the debris.
Mr. Nsenkyire said the extent of damage was not huge, adding that it was only the wooden ceiling that collapsed.
He gave an assurance that NADMO would make sure any danger at the facility is dealt with as a result of the collapse of the ceiling.
Meanwhile, the Kumasi City Mall was temporarily closed to the public as the debris from the collapsed ceiling was being cleared.
There was heavy security at the place as managers of the facility wanted to prevent thieves from taking advantage of the situation.
The Kumasi City Mall was opened to the public about two years ago and it has since become the favourite shopping centre for residents.
The place is expected to be busy in the coming days as people would be trooping there to shop for Christmas.
