Kumasi Homosexual Lynched

Abubakar Shamsudeen

A young man believed to be a homosexual in his mid-twenties was on Tuesday lynched by a homophobic mob at Aboabo, a suburb of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.

The deceased, known only as Salisu, was said to be the sex partner of one Abubakar Shamsudeen.

It was gathered that Salisu’s sex partner visited him on that fateful day, and while the gay couple were in the act, the youth of the area, who had planned an attack, barged in on them, subjecting the pair to brutal assault.

Salisu, who sustained serious injuries, died at the scene, while his partner managed to escape.

Salisu’s uncle, Osumanu Bagaya, declined to speak when contacted by our reporter.

At the time of writing this report, the Police had come for the body of the deceased and deposited it at the KomfoAnokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) morgue for autopsy, without making any attempt to launch an inquiry into who might have killed the young man.

Meanwhile AbubakarShamsudeen has gone into hiding after it was discovered that he is gay, a source told this reporter, adding that shockwaves went through his own community when the sexual orientation of Abubakar came to light, as he was hitherto respected by both the young and old because of his unassuming nature.
