SEVERAL TOP members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region openly shed tears on Tuesday over the death of Akenten Appiah-Menkah, a founding member of the party in the region.

Mr Appiah-Menkah was an industrialist, lawyer and staunch politician, who played leading roles to bring the NPP to its current status. He also created jobs for many people in the country.

Several top-notch NPP members from all over the country paid glowing tributes to him for his deep sacrifices for the party and mother Ghana, barely 24 hours after news broke about his death,

Among them was Dr. Amoako Tuffour, a senior advisor to the president, who described the late Appiah-Menkah as a true son of mother Ghana whose contributions to Ghana’s growth are worth celebrating.

He referred to Appiah-Mensah as an intelligent, hardworking, patriotic, courageous and visionary person, who sacrificed much of his life on earth to champion the effective development of the country.

Dr. Amoako Tuffour, who sounded very sad on radio, stated that indeed, Ghana had lost an important person, adding that the huge vacuum that Appiah Mensah’s death had created could not be filled anytime soon.

The Ashanti Regional secretary of the NPP, Sam Pyne, said news of Appiah-Menkah’s death had hit the entire party faithful very hard, adding that the party had indeed lost a great person and a father.

According to him, the late party guru always gave good counsel to his colleagues about the need for them to stay united, saying that the NPP is in a sad moment.

Lawyer Henry Nana Boakye aka Nana B, who is aspiring to become the National Youth Organizer of the NPP, said he had been shattered following news that Appiah-Menkah had joined his ancestors.

According to him, the man served as inspiration and the source of wisdom and strength for most of the NPP members all over the country, including him (Nana B), noting that Appiah-Menkah’s passing had created a big vacuum in the NPP.
