Kwahu South Assembly Supports PWDs

The DCE presenting an item to a beneficiary

THE Kwahu South District Assembly in the Eastern Region has presented various items to persons living with disabilities (PWDs) in the area to make them financially independent.

Among the items were deep freezers, ice chests, fridge stabilizers, personal energy transport vehicles, hand sewing machines and accessories, boxes of sewing thread, electronic tool kit, electronic blower, farm spraying machines, wheelbarrows, long rake, machetes, hoes, wellington boots and fufu pounding machines.

Ten out of 26 beneficiaries were given GH¢1,000 cash each, while the remaining 16 were presented with items considered to be working tools.

The items were purchased with the percentage allocation for PWDs from the District Assembly Common Fund.

Speaking at a short ceremony to present the items, the District Chief Executive (DCE), Emmanuel Atta Ofori, said the donation formed part of the commitment of the Akufo-Addo government to improve the livelihood of PWDs in the country.

According to the DCE, the government believes that disability is not inability, and entreated beneficiaries to make good use of the cash and the working tools presented to them.

Mr. Ofori also used the occasion to educate the public on the dangers of Covid-19 and the precautionary measures to help fight the coronavirus.

For him, strict adherence to the Ministry of Health protocols is the surest way to contain the virus.

One of the beneficiaries, Grace Osei, on behalf her colleagues, expressed gratitude to the government, the District Assembly and DCE for the support and gave an assurance that both the cash and items would be put to good use.
