Kweku Baako Criticises Black Sherif
Abdul Malik Kweku Baako, the Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide, has publicly criticised fast-rising Ghanaian musician Black Sherif for his recent social media comments regarding the ongoing #OccupyJulorbiHouse protest and President Akufo-Addo’s address at the United Nations General Assembly.
Black Sherif took to Twitter to express his shock at the arrest of some #OccupyJulorbiHouse protesters and questioned why the police were preventing citizens from demanding accountability from their elected leaders. In the same tweet, he mentioned his surprise at President Akufo-Addo’s speech at the UN General Assembly, particularly regarding the amount of money he requested as reparations for the slave trade.
The musician’s tweet read, “Left the UN conference in New York City right after the President of Ghana’s presentation. I’ve never heard a figure like what he asked for from the UN. So if they carry all these money give dem, where them dey take pass? Hand on my heart I dey tell you there’s no evidence for all the money these people dey borrow in our name (sic).”
Black Sherif’s comments resonated with many social media users who praised him for raising important questions about government spending. However, Kweku Baako, a veteran journalist with a wealth of experience, had a different perspective on the matter.
In response to Black Sherif’s comments, Baako succinctly described the singer’s remarks and the public reactions as “ignorance glorified.” This statement suggests Baako’s disagreement with the musician’s views and his assessment that the comments lacked a deep understanding of the issues at hand.
