Lawyer Builds Community Centre For Hometown

The Community Center. Inset: The Lawyer, Chiefs And Residents Commissioning The Project

Lawyer Kwame Gyan, a senior lecturer at the University of Ghana, has commissioned a community center he personally constructed for residents of Akyem Akrofufu in the Atiwa West District of the Eastern Region.

The center, which has auxiliary facilities, was named after Comfort Buntaa, the lawyer’s late mother.

Addressing the gathering last Saturday, the astute lawyer said he would never deny his people basic amenities.

“I decided to build the centre because the residents struggle whenever there is a social gathering in the town. I decided to do this in a bid to leave a legacy in the area.”

Lawyer Kwame Gyan told the residents that the facility should not be used as hotel by the youth to indulge in immoral acts.

He entreated the youth at Akyem Akrofufu to take education seriously since it’s the key to success.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) of the Atiwa West, Isaac Akomaning Asamoah, commended the lawyer highly for the construction of the community centre which would immensely benefit the community.

He entreated the people to send their applications to the district for scholarships since government has decentralized the system to bring it to the doorsteps of the people.

The Chief of Akyem–Akrofufu, Osaberima Adigye Gyamfi, expressed his gratitude to the lawyer and called on the people to ensure that the community centre is properly maintained.

“After giving me a hint, he just used five months to do such a marvelous thing for the people of Akrofufu. So I will thank him a lot and ask for a long life from God for him,” the chief said.

Chairman

Dasebre Ayimadu Kantamanto, the Chief of Kwabeng, who doubles as Okyeman Gyaasehene and guest of honour, called on the government to engage chiefs in disseminating information to the public who have a role to play in national development.
