Legendary Highlife Star AB Crentsil Is Dead

Legendary highlife musician, Alfred Benjamin Crentsil, popularly known as AB Crentsil has died.

He died at age 79.

The demise of the talented singer was confirmed by sound engineer, Fred Kyei Mensah on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, in a Facebook post.

He described him as a legend who cannot be forgotten. He however didn’t give further details to what caused his death.

He wrote, “FAREWELL AB CRENSTIL. The original composer and singer of the famous and controversial songs, ‘Moses and Atia’, AB Crenstil, has died! He had a stint with a lot of bands before joining the Sweet Talks Band with Smart Nkansah and then his band, Ahenfo. His hit songs, ‘Juliana and Obi ba wiase’, cannot be forgotten.”
AB was one of the greatest legends of High life music. He released great songs such as “I Go Pay You Tomorrow, Atia, Ye Wo Adze an Oye [Osokoo], Papa Samo, Ayen, and Obi Baa Wise among others.

He was also described as one of the “big three” contemporary Ghanaian vocalists who won numerous Ghanaian music awards, including the Fontomfrom Evergreen Award, a special honour bestowed upon a musician with 15–20 years of continuous music experience.

He is gone but definitely won’t be forgotten. Condolences to his family.
