Ejura is restless and we are concerned. The youth of the town yesterday took to the streets to vent their anger over the murder of a man believed to be a social commentator.
A number of fatalities has been recorded, development which aggravated an already tense situation.
We wish matters did not get to this stage where the military had to be called in to offer a supporting role to their law enforcement counterparts in the police service.
The murder of Macho Kaaka the alias of the deceased is the cause of the riotous situation and we find it regrettable.
Law enforcement officers have thankfully arrested two suspects in the murder of the deceased, an arrest which has naturally put paid to the diabolic efforts by some to impute state orchestration of the murder.
We are therefore, appealing to the youth of Ejura to at this stage allow investigations to proceed into the murder.
It is heartwarming that the police have invited information about the murder of Kaaka. Such information will assist in the investigation being undertaken currently.
It is our belief that a thorough probe will lead to a welcome closure to this nasty chapter in our history.
Only when the investigations are concluded that the justice the incensed people of Ejura are demanding, and rightly so, can be meted out to the culpable.
We condemn those who sought to politicize the death of Kaaka in the first place. These persons have not stopped their manouvres, their hands clearly noticeable in the security mess that has engulfed in the town.
Look at the deaths of two of the rampaging youth? Is that the way we want this country to go?
It will be better at this stage to allow calm to prevail so that a lasting solution can be found to the trouble that has engulfed the town.
We express our condolences to the bereaved families. It is painful to lose loved ones, young as some of the deceased were, through a demonstration gone sour.
Demonstrations of this nature easily get out of hand and those who started are unable to control what they started in the first place.
We call on the traditional authorities in Ejura to join hands with the district security council to address the underlying challenge which triggered what has now taken the form of a national security challenge. The Ejuramanhene must be commended for his efforts to get the irate youth to calm down for the security agencies to do their work.
As for those so-called ‘Fixthecountry’ guys, they should spare us the noise and allow the police to delve into the matter. Throwing all manner of allegations on social media but refusing to assist the police to crack the case is not what we need at this time.
While we appreciate the pain the bereaved are enduring we wish to plead that they avoid making unverified remarks and accusations. These would not inure to the peace we all seek for Ejura at this time.
