CK Akonnor
Ghana football boss Kurt ES Okraku is appealing to the Ghanaian football family to rally behind Charles Kwablah (CK) Akonnor.
Akonnor replaced Kwasi Appiah late last year after a stint as the latter’s lieutenant.
He stated in an interview that in Akonnor lie all the qualities it takes to succeed.
Consequently, he has appealed to lovers of the game to offer the former Black Stars captain the needed support to get Ghana to the top.
Notwithstanding his vast experience, having coached some of the country’s finest sides like Hearts of Oak, Asante Kotoko, Ashgold and Dreams FC, many have raised eyebrows regarding his capability.
The fans’ fear stems from the fact that Akonnor has never coached a team at the national level; however, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) president believes he can lead the Black Stars to where they have struggled to be in over three decades.
“I am very positive that CK will succeed with the national team. He has played in Germany for Wolfsburg and also captaining the Black Stars as well,” he told Topical Radio in Germany.
The GFA chief added, “He was a big player. By way of coaching, he has have stint with Hearts of Oak, Kotoko, Dreams FC and Ashgold, so I think he has experience in coaching.
“He is a true son of the land and it is about time we all rally behind him with prayers and whatever support. Once Ghanaians and the Ghana FA support him.
“I have no doubt that Akonnor will take the Black Stars to a different level. I’m very positive about the future,” he told Topical Radio.
