The Tema Supreme Lions Club of District 418, Ghana has held a fund raising event to build a Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound in honour of the late Selorm Dzamefe known as Castro, a volunteer of the club.

The late Selorm Dzamefe lost his life in a canoe accident while on the Volta Lake at Yatsovukofe in the Asugyaman District of the Eastern Region.

The fundraising dinner which took place in Accra, witnessed members of the Lions Club of District 418 pay homage to the late Castro whose death occurred in 2016 when he was transporting wooden doors and other constructional materials across the Volta River to Yatsovukofe community for the club’s flagship project “The Lion Nelson Yawa Agbesi Solar Learning Shed”.

Speaking to journalists, immediate past president of the Tema Supreme Lions Club, Mawuli Dzamefe stated that the club after Castro’s passing decided to build a CHPS compound in the community where there is no primary healthcare to address the needs of its people, to honour him for the sacrifice he made for the club.

Mr. Dzamefe who is also the cousin of the deceased indicated that acres of land have been earmarked to support the building of the CHPS compound, meaning that the facility will have features like a dedicated ward, a doctor’s office, lobby, dispensary, among other to provide the conducive environment for the operation of the health facility.

“Castro was my blood relative, and the only ‘sin’ he committed was supporting the Lions Club Tema supreme to contract the Solar Learning Shed. This was after a news report that Yatsovukofe students cross the Volta River to get to school each day. The Lions Club is calling on all Ghanaians to support this worthy cause in honour of Castro’s death.

The President of the Club, Daniel Adzogble on his part reaffirmed the club’s commitment to empowering the Ghanaian populace in the area of health and well-being, strengthening communities, supporting those in need through humanitarian services and grants that impact lives globally, and encouraging peace and international understanding.

Lions are known for supporting those with fewer privileges, and we are committed to supporting humanity to the best of our abilities. We appeal for support from all Ghanaians to make our plans for the nation a success” he added.
