‘Liverpool Are Champs In Everyone’s Head’

Arsene Wenger

Arsene Wenger has insisted that Liverpool ‘are champions in everyone’s head’ irrespective of whether they are officially awarded the Premier League title this season.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are 25 points clear of their closest challengers Manchester City but there has been much debate regarding how the season should be decided after the coronavirus pandemic brought the division to a halt.

Clubs are discussing the possibility of completing the season behind closed doors and such a scenario would surely enable Liverpool to gain the necessary points to be named league champions for the first time in 30 years.

Former Arsenal manager Wenger believes Liverpool will be viewed as champions regardless of what is decided.

As reported by talkSPORT, Wenger said, “Jurgen [Klopp] has done extremely well because that club has waited 30 years for this title.

“And when you think they have such a massive difference [points gap] to the second team, Manchester City, as well – 25 points, it’s absolutely massive.

“No matter what England will decide, Liverpool are champions in everyone’s head, I think.”

In France, Paris Saint-Germain were crowned Ligue 1 champions when the season was ended early. They were 12 points ahead of second place Marseille.

There have been suggestions in some quarters that the Premier League should be declared null and void, while others have claimed that it should be decided on points per game.
