The victim at the hospital
The security detail of Madina’s New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate (PC), Robert Lamptey, was savagely attacked by a mob during the Oyarifa Homowo festival on Saturday, September 7, 2024.
The daylight assault, which left the security officer with a gruesomely severed thumb, has sent shockwaves through the community and raised serious concerns about the escalation of political tensions ahead of the upcoming general election.
The attack unfolded in the heart of the festival celebrations at Oyarifa Junction, just moments after Mr. Lamptey addressed a large gathering of youth, traditional elders, and dignitaries.
The thugs, fueled by a blatant disregard for the law and fueled by political animosity, descended upon the candidate’s security detail, unleashing a wave of barbarity that left the officer writhing in pain with a severed thumb.
Adding insult to injury, the innocent taxi driver who rushed the wounded security officer to the Alfa Hospital in Madina Estate was also mercilessly beaten by the mob.
The driver, who sustained a fractured arm in the attack, is now receiving treatment alongside the security officer. The thugs, in a chilling display of ruthlessness, even attempted to storm the hospital in search of their victims.
The brazen attack, which followed a peaceful and celebratory address by Mr. Lamptey, has sent a chilling message of intimidation and violence, casting a dark shadow over the political landscape of the Madina Constituency.
The Madina Police, who are actively investigating the attack, face the daunting task of restoring order and security in a community now gripped by fear and uncertainty.
This brutal assault demands immediate and decisive action from law enforcement, with the full weight of the law brought down upon the perpetrators of this act of political barbarity.
It is imperative that the security agencies act swiftly and decisively to prevent further violence and ensure the safety of all political actors and citizens in the lead up to the crucial elections.
