Elvis Osei Mensah Dapaah
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Ahafo Ano South West Constituency, Elvis Osei Mensah Dapaah, has accused the Mahama-led National Democratic Congress (NDC) government of indirectly cancelling the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy introduced by the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration under former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
According to him, students are now being compelled to pay printing and other fees which were fully catered for under the Akufo-Addo government.
Speaking in an interview with Oyerepa TV & FM after touring some Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) centres in the constituency last week, the MP expressed concern over what he described as attempts to frustrate the implementation of the Free SHS policy.
Mr. Dapaah, however, assured students and parents in the constituency that he would do everything possible to ensure that no child drops out of school because of financial difficulties.
He used the occasion to encourage candidates writing this year’s BECE to remain focused and disciplined in order to excel in their examinations.
Meanwhile, the Ahafo Ano South West District Director of Education, Justin Kwasi Gbortor, described the conduct of the examinations in the district as smooth and incident-free.
He, however, appealed to the government to post more teachers to the district to help improve academic work in the area.
