Mahama’s Lawyers Delay Election Petition Trial

Lawyers for former President Joh Dramani Mahama have written another letter to the Supreme Court, this time asking for the case to be delayed for two hours.

The case was originally scheduled for 9:30am today but the lawyers want the case to be moved to 11:30am to enable them study the respondents’ affidavit in opposition to their application for review.

The letter signed by Tony Luther indicated that the court’s registrar had forwarded soft copies of the respondents’ affidavit to him at about 11:13pm last night.

Mr. Mahama has renewed his attempt at getting the Supreme Court to order the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Adukwei Mensa to testify and be cross-examined in the ongoing election petition.

His lawyers have filed a motion for a review of the court’s decision on February 11, 2021 which held that it is a settle principle of law that a court cannot compel a party to adduce evidence in a trial.

The former President believes that the court made fundamental errors in its ruling when it denied his move for an order compelling the EC boss to testify and be cross-examined.
