The Ejura District Police Command is on the heels of armed robbers suspected to be operating on the Ejura-Sekyedumase Highway.
They reportedly shot and wounded one Kwame Bas, a driver’s mate, in the head on February 3.
Bas is currently receiving treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi.
Chief Superintendent of Police Richard Kumekor, the Ejura District Commander, confirmed this to Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Kumasi on Friday.
He said the victim was on board a Ssanyong Mini bus with registration number GT 266-13 loaded with okro from Nkoranza in the Brong-Ahafo Region to Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional capital.
The vehicle, which was being driven by Adams Alhassan, was signaled to stop upon reaching the outskirts of Frante by an individual, but the driver ignored the order and moved on.
Another armed man later emerged from the bush and fired at the speeding vehicle, and Bas was hit in the head.
The driver, who saw Bas bleeding profusely, refused to stop and rushed him to Ejura Government Hospital where he was admitted and later referred to KATH.
The police, acting upon a tip-off, rushed to the scene, but could not trace the miscreants.
No arrests have been made so far.
