Man, 42, Arrested For PDS Theft

Bright Kofi Bansah

A 42-year-old man has been arrested at Sogakope in the Volta Region for allegedly reconnecting customers of Power Distribution Services Ghana Ltd (PDS) whose supplies have been cut for non-payment of power used.

Bright Kofi Bansah, aka Coffie, was picked up last Friday after he was caught engaging in illegal PDS activities for customers at Agorkpo-Sogakope.

According to a news release from PDS in the Volta Region, Bansah was once a third party contractor for the power supply company, and was using his experience to engage in illegalities.

He was spotted by PDS officials reconnecting customers to power supply from an electric pole at the Sogakope Roundabout traffic light, after the customers had been disconnected for non-payment of bills.

The PDS Volta Regional Revenue Protection Manager, Ing. William Addy, said, “The mass disconnection exercise which began on Wednesday was aimed at maximizing revenue for the company by targeting high debtors.”

He added that during an exercise to check illegal reconnections on Friday, the monitoring team spotted Bright Kofi Bansah illegally reconnecting customers to power supply from an electric pole around 9:00 am.

“The monitoring team apprehended him and reported the case to the Tongu Divisional Police Headquarters for further action,” he said.
Bansah admitted to illegal reconnection and pleaded with the authorities to pardon him for engaging in that act.

The culprit was later arrested by the Tongu Divisional Police Commander Supt Dennis Fiakpui, who confirmed the arrest. He said the suspect would be processed for court.
Mr. S. Abrefa Besea, Regional Commercial Manager of PDS in the Volta Region, said the company would intensify the exercise to maximize revenue for the company.

He cautioned the public to desist from unlawful entry into PDS networks and illegal connections since such actions constitute criminal offences punishable by law.
