Man Charged For Incest Impregnates Daughter

A-45-year-old driver has appeared before an Accra Domestic Violence and Gender-Based Court for allegedly defiling his 17-year-old daughter.

The accused, Daniel Sika, is reported to have defiled and impregnated his daughter in a kiosk at Okponglo, East Legon, a suburb of Accra, in 2014.

According to the prosecutor, Detective Inspector Kofi Atimbiri, Daniel Sika committed the act when the victim and her other siblings visited him for their basic needs.

In the court, presided over by Abena Oppong Adjin-Doku, the accused denied the offence and was admitted to bail in the sum of GH¢40,000 with three sureties, and the case was adjourned until March 17, 2017.

The complainant, a trader living at East Legon and mother of the victim, was the former wife of the accused.

The four children who came from the marriage are living with the complainant.

The victim and her two other siblings have been visiting Sika to spend the weekends and vacations during which times they collect their upkeep and other basic needs.

The prosecutor said whenever the victim and her siblings visit, they all sleep with the accused on the same bed in the accused person’s kiosk.

Detective Inspector Atimbiri indicated that Sika had been having sexual intercourse with the victim on the bed when the other siblings are fast asleep.

He said in 2014, the victim fell sick and Sika sent her to the hospital for treatment when it emerged after the doctor’s examination that the girl was pregnant.

The prosecutor said Sika then allowed his daughter to abort the said pregnancy and warned her not to disclose the incidence or the abortion to anyone, including his former wife.

At 9am on February 2, this year, according to the prosecutor, the victim went to church and confessed to her uncle that her father had been having sex with her whenever she and her two siblings visited their father (Sika).

This led to the arrest of Sika who in his caution statement denied the offence.
