The victim
A 42-year-old cocoa farmer is said to have slashed his manhood with a sharp object to take his own life at Aworowa, in the Techiman South Municipality of the Bono East Region.
The victim, Kofi Assum, who is also a basket weaver, was found lying in a pool of blood.
According to mother of the victim, Madam Grace Adwoa Agyeiwaa, her son had complained of hearing voices persistently instructing him to harm himself and end his life.
A close friend of the victim, Mr. Collins Akumfi Ameyaw, described the incident as shocking, noting that Mr. Assum had not previously exhibited any signs of mental health challenges.
He is currently receiving treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi.
