Isaac Sackey
A 34-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly killing a woman believed to be a prostitute in his room at Manet Gardens in Accra.
The suspect, identified as Isaac Sackey, according to reports, hired the services of the lady identified only as Tina, a Nigerian commercial sex worker, for the night and after having several rounds of sex with her, a misunderstanding reportedly ensued between them and Isaac Sackey purportedly stabbed her in the stomach, leading to her instant death.
According to police reports, Sackey reported himself to the police after committing the act.
ASP Effia Tenge, the Accra Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), who confirmed the arrest to DAILY GUIDE, said it occurred at about 2:00 am yesterday in a house at Manet Gardens, where the suspect lives.
According to reports received by the police, Isaac Sackey went to a spot near Baatsona to drink with friends Wednesday evening.
While drinking he spotted the lady, believed to be a prostitute, and subsequently invited her to join them.
After taking in some drinks, the suspect allegedly negotiated to go to bed with the lady and after agreeing on the deal, he took her to his house at Manet Gardens for the night.
The police officer said after several rounds of sexual intercourse, Sackey decided to enter his restroom to freshen up.
When he came out, he claimed he saw the lady searching through his belongings and when he checked, he realized that his GH¢120.00 had been stolen.
The suspect said he confronted the lady and that turned into a fracas.
Sackey claimed Tina took a sharp knife from her bag and attempted to stab him but in the course of the struggle, he overpowered the lady and mistakenly stabbed her in the stomach, ASP Effia Tenge said.
The suspect said he came out, locked his room with the lady inside it, and rushed to the Psychiatric Hospital first to report the matter before he was directed by the hospital authorities to report himself to the police.
After receiving the news, ASP Tenge said police personnel rushed to the Manet Gardens apartment of the suspect and when the door was opened; the deceased was found lying in a pool of blood dead.
When the body was inspected, she had a knife wound in the stomach and the thigh, indicating that the suspect might have stabbed the lady twice, according to the PRO.
The body has since been deposited at the Police Hospital mortuary pending autopsy.
