Manhyia Honours Osei Assibey, Others

Osei Assibey Antwi, the KMA boss receiving his award

The Manhyia Palace, the official seat of Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has presented a certificate of appreciation to the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA).

It was in recognition of the key role that the assembly, especially the KMA Chief Executive, Osei Assibey Antwi, played during the burial of the late Asantehemaa, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II.

The two-week grand funeral service was held at the Manhyia Palace some few weeks ago.

The Manhyia Palace on Wednesday honoured key personalities and organizations, who contributed immensely to the success of the grand funeral of the Asantehema during a durbar.

The KMA’s award was received by Osei Assibey Antwi, who was accompanied by top officials of the assembly, including the Kumasi Metro Roads Director, Ing Nana Poku Agyeman, a grand nephew of Otumfuo.

The Kumasi Mayor, after receiving the award, paid homage to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, who was dressed in rich ‘Kente’ cloth and sat in state in the company of elders and servants.

Other recipients of the awards included cadets of some selected Senior High Schools (SHS), banking institutions, media organizations and other hard working individuals.

In a speech read on his behalf, the Asantehene lauded all those who supported them to bury his biological mother.

The Paramount Chief of Bompata Traditional Area, Nana Effah Apenten, in his welcome address, said Asanteman is grateful to dignitaries, including presidents and chiefs, who helped to make the funeral successful.

He said even though the burial of the Asantehema was a solemn event, the contributions of all and sundry helped to make it an international programme which marketed Ghana.
